Exciting news for Port Douglas Basketball Club this week, with the selection of Club player Toby Hull for the Cairns Marlins (Division 1) Under 18 representative team. Toby was selected after trials were held in Cairns where 45 young athletes trialed for two representative team (Division1 and 2). The Under 18 Cairns Marlins have National Junior Basketball Competition tournaments in Townsville (October), Mackay (November) and Cairns (December) before heading to the Gold Coast in January 2021 for the Queensland State Championships.Β Β 

Toby is the product of our local Douglas Heat Junior Programs, starting in our Aussie Hoops (Under 10) program where he developed a love for the game and is following the Douglas Heat pathway (through Cairns Basketball). Congratulations Toby!

Douglas Heat Basketball hosts the Aussie Hoops Under 10 mixed program on Wednesdays at 4:00pm at the Cyclone Shelter Stadium.

Monday night saw the Club’s Womens’ competition kick off with a scrimmage game of ten players. Next week will see full competition begin in the Womens’ competition.Β 

The Under 15 mixed competition was also strongly contested on Monday night.Β 

On Tuesday night, the Open Mens’ competition saw two exciting games. Red (41) defeated Yellow (39) and Blue (41) defeated White (27). Top scorers were Lamar Enoch for team Yellow (29) Jay for team Red (16), Luke Hull for team Blue (15) and Lahen Baines for team White (14).

Wednesday saw the return of the Aussie Hoops kids, followed by the Primary School aged kids’ competition. More than 30 kids participated in training, skills development and mixed girls’ and boys’ competition.
