After the release of the Agenda for Tuesday’s Ordinary Council Meeting late yesterday, Councillors have only one full working day to consider the following proposals, amongst others:
Daintree River Crossing Public Consultation
That Council endorses the community public consultation plan for the Daintree River Ferry Crossing Round Two Public Consultation Plan.
The Options Assessment Report examines a bridge option and the proposed two-ferry service, includes costs and provides a comparison against the current single ferry arrangement. The report will be released publicly, and the community will be invited to provide feedback
Concerned and interested parties should note the proposed consultation period from DSC’s site, from mid-September to October 3, 2020, and the one-week period for focus groups, community and TO meetings.

Subsequent to the open meeting, a Closed Session will address prejudicial matters relating to the Daintree River crossing options.
Permanent road closure at 65 Karnak Rd, Whyanbeel
of two wooded and unpassable roads and conversion of easement, to road reserve to provide suitable and guaranteed future access to Council’s water supply infrastructure.

Report of the ” 40 Days in 40 Ways” media campaign
Call of the Running Tide resource and performance agreement
That DSC enters into a three year agreement with Port Douglas Artists Inc for Call of the Running Tide with $15,000 cash in years one and three; and $10,000 in year two; with in-kind support including use of Port Douglas Community Hall, Mossman Shire Hall and parks during the event and for pre-event workshops. As the event has been previously funded under Council’s Grants Program, the event is ineligible for funding under the Major Grant Round.
In-kind assistance for post COVID-19 events strategy
That DSC provides in-kind support for use of venues and waive application fees for events, as part of a post COVID-19 economic and event recovery strategy, to the amount of $8,216 for Knockout Events – Wonderland Under the Stars, $2,508 + $1,500 security bond for Festival Amusements – Mini Fun Fair.
The Mini Fun Fair will be made up of rides and amusements that generally appear at the Port Douglas Carnivale and the Mossman Show.
Funding support for “Better Together” Conference event in February 2022 to value of $10,000
That DSC resolves to: Provide one off funding of $10,000 cash and in-kind assistance of waiving of venue hire fees for Sugar Wharf for the Better Together LGBTIQ Conference.
The funding amount requested is to go towards associated costs, and in-kind support for the use of the Sugar Wharf ($1,550) for the event, to be redirected from the 2021/22 operational budget. The Better Together Conference is an annual event that will be held in Cairns in 2022. As part of the overall conference agenda, a staging event and a number of workshops will be presented over five days beforehand in Port Douglas.
Naming of unnamed road off Captain Cook Highway, Killaloe
Council has received a request from Gassman Development Perspectives to name an unnamed road reserve off Captain Cook Highway. The road is the primary access for Gold Coast Marine Aquaculture and the request is to name it Noel Herbst Road after the business owner Noel Herbst. Section 60 (2) (d) of the Local Government Act gives Councils the power to name roads after consulting with stakeholders.
The Ordinary Meeting of the Council will be held on Tuesday 25 August 2020 at 10am and is closed to the public pursuant to Section 277E of the Local Government Regulation 2012 due to health and safety reasons associated with COVID-19.
