Off-grid Daintree residents and businesses will now receive the same financial assistance as everybody else in the State, as part of the State government response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui, said Daintree residents will receive a similar payment to the Queensland Government’s electricity rebate, after she made representations to the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, Anthony Lynham.
The Palaszczuk Government will provide a $200 rebate for each eligible household in the Daintree, and $400 for eligible businesses in the Daintree.
More information will be sent to residents in the coming weeks.
“Households can expect to receive the payment in coming weeks,” Ms Lui said.
“The Daintree community is off the power grid and householders in the area did not receive the benefit….I received representations from several residents and businesses in the area…it seemed a shame to me that they should miss out, so I went to bat for them.”
