What’s On Around The Douglas Shire This Weekend?

IF you are not taking advantage of the fabulous weather conditions this weekend by heading out to the reef or camping, there are plenty of choices for live music, fabulous eats, markets and opening football games throughout the Shire and beyond!


Music comes alive throughout Douglas Shire venues with Lady Valiant, Shannon Hunter, Miss Tee, Fraser Scott, Wait-a-While, Dave Cooke and Rhyece O’Neill Blues all live over the weekend.

Markets will be held on Mossman and at St Crispins Cafe. Wear the kids out with a visit to the Port Douglas markets on Sunday, pop in to the historical Court House Museum for a trip down memory lane, and a walk around Flagstaff Hill before indulging in one of our fabulous local Sunday dining specials-including seafood specials, Sunday roasts and $1 oysters.

There are also markets in Mareeba, if you want to explore the region further (drop in to the Mount Molloy National Hotel on the way up, for the best burgers and beers!).

If you are oyster lover, take a cruise down the Great Barrier Reef Drive on Sunday for $1 oysters at 1:00 pm at Ellis Beach Bar & Grill, with live grooves by Talitha Jae to accompany fabulous beachside dining, cold beer and atmosphere.

If you are looking to head north over the Daintree, Sunday a is a great day for it, with another popular Safari Sunday at the Turtle Rock Cafe, featuring live blues and drink and food specials for a decadent Sunday session…


Sports lovers will enjoy the return of football, union, rugby and Aussie Rules this weekend too!


Art fans will enjoy the weekend in Cairns with the Archibald Prize exhibition continuing, as well as local artists featuring in the Call of the Running Tide Exhibition at Northsite Contemporary Gallery.

Prestigious and controversial, The Archibald Prize is Australia’s oldest and most respected award for portraiture, and it arrived in Cairns this week. The Exhibition is open through to 2 May 2021. Reservations are essential.
