Welcome to another Long Weekend in the Douglas Shire, celebrating Labour Day on Monday.
Let’s hope the weather holds for a huge day of golf at Palmer Sea Reef as the Bulls Masters take on the Vintage Reds, as well as Dragons games and what promises to be an entertaining challenge between the Sharks League Masters and the Under 15s. Zinc and KIND are also hosting their fundraising Mothers Day luncheon.
Hop on over to Lower Daintree for the re-opening of Crossroads Cafe with their beloved Fish n Chips & Open Mic night or head up into the hills for the whopping $2000 Jackpot Joker night up at Mount Molloy topped off with Rockin’ Rick’s Karaoke.
There is plenty more live music all weekend all through Port Douglas, including a special performance at the Clink Theatre featuring Wilma Reading. If you’re a Toni Childs fan, she’s in town Saturday at the Tanks Art Centre in Cairns.
Farther afield, Mount Garnet hosts two days of fabulous entertainment with Country Races on both Friday and Saturday, with Cabaret by night, and a full day Rodeo on Sunday to round out the weekend.
The Tav is also now hosting a Sunday pool comp.
Markets will be held in Mossman and at St Crispins Cafe on Saturday and in Port Douglas on Sunday. Chillax over one of the many Sunday dining specials-including seafood platters, Sunday roasts and food vans at the markets. Farer afield, there are monthly markets in Koah on Saturday, Palm Cove and at the Bailey Hotel for the Makers Market.
If you are oyster lover, take a cruise down the Great Barrier Reef Drive on Sunday for $1 oysters at 1:00 pm at Ellis Beach Bar & Grill, with live music to accompany fabulous beachside dining, cold beer and atmosphere.
There is also a Tree Planting Day at Nightwings Rainforest Centre for Rainforest Rescue on Saturday.
The weather doesn’t look too bad-get out there and enjoy three days of exploring and enjoying!
Art fans will enjoy the weekend in Cairns with the Archibald Prize exhibition continuing, as well as local artists featuring in the Call of the Running Tide Exhibition at Northsite Contemporary Gallery.
Prestigious and controversial, The Archibald Prize is Australia’s oldest and most respected award for portraiture, and it arrived in Cairns this week. The Exhibition is open through to 2 May 2021. Reservations are essential.
