Retrospective Art Exhibition Celebrates Artists Past, Present and Emerging

port douglas art exhibition

The Douglas region inspires, and is home to many talented artists, whose creativity covers a broad range of mediums. This important show, Retrospective Past – Present – Future, is curated by Port Douglas Artists Incorporated, and seeks to explore the region’s spiritand celebrate the past, present and emerging artists of the Douglas Shire.

Curators have assembled significant past works representative of the rich artistic history of our Shire on loan from private collections. The Exhibition continues with both present artists and future emerging artists’ works selected to continue the story of our Shire.

Catseye Productions will launch a documentary archiving not only the Shire’s visual landscape but also the story of the artists in their environment. Artists will be selling selected pieces over the duration of the exhibition.

With curatorial support from Cairns Art Gallery, and produced with funding from the Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) and in-kind assistance from Douglas Shire Council, the exhibition will run for three weeks, with the grand opening to be held on Friday 25th June 2021 at 6 pm, including a bar and food event.

The exhibition will be opened free of charge daily, with the show closing on Friday 16th July 2021.

It is hoped that the local community will join in celebrating an exciting new chapter for the visual arts in the region and a positive year of events and new inspiration for our Shire’s recovery post-COVID.
