After an amazing week celebrating NAIDOC, there is no rest for the social amongst us-thank goodness it is a long weekend!

Tomorrow night sees none other than the legendary Paul Kelly gracing the Yacht Club, with a prelude afternoon performance by Lady Valiant at The Tav, and the return of live music at the IronBar with Grand Theft Audio playing until midnight.

Of course it is the Mighty Mossman Show weekend, with locals set to hit the carnival rides, show bag alley, guinea pigs, chooks, cattle, craft and cake exhibits on Sunday and Monday.

The longest running roots reggae festival in Far North Queensland is back in Kuranda this weekend, and is SOLD OUT.

The fabulous Kiki Courtidis will play live tonight at the Daintree Bar at the Sheraton Grand Mirage, and locals, guests and visitors are welcomed.

Oaks Resort Port Douglas welcome back locals poolside, with another locals Sunday session this weekend, promising house DJs, live music and fabulous food and drink specials all afternoon.

In terms of weather, the long weekend obviously kicked off this morning with glassed out seas, lots of boats heading out to the reef today, and reports of curious minke whales enjoying human company. A high [1027 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland coast. A trough will move offshore of the central Queensland coast on Saturday, then a new high moving over the continent will strengthen a ridge along the east coast early next week. Winds are variable around 10 knots today, increasing to 10-15 tomorrow and 15-20 knots on Sunday.

A weekly social Ocean Swim around the buoys in front of the patrol hut, which makes about a 500m course. Meet in front of the patrol hut on Four Mile Beach at 9am. Please note this is a social swim without any organised water safety and you swim at your own risk. For safety reasons we swim in front of the patrol hut during lifeguard hours.
