Sport Report / Douglas Heat BasketBall Club Fires Up New Tournament

Douglas Heat Basketball (DHB) will be hosting its first Junior representative tournament for 2021 on Sunday 29 August at their home court at Port Douglas State School.

Atherton Basketball will be bringing U16, U14 & U12 Boys teams to kick off the 2021 representative season.

DHB Club President, Steve Hull reports that the Small Clubs Tournament will involve regional clubs from Port Douglas, Mareeba and Atherton. The tournament will run between August and November each year, initially for the junior competition, with the aspiration to include the senior teams as the competition evolves.

The Club also hopes to involve Cairns Basketball in an end-of-season tournament in Cairns between the regional Clubs and their emerging representative programme.

President Steve Hull is excited about the concept for our local Club, as an inter-town series while most other sporting codes have finished for the year. The new representative tournaments will keep Douglas Shire basketballers focused on their sport, and on staying fit and healthy.

On the local scene, Douglas Heat’s Club Season 2 has just kicked off, and is scheduled to finish in November. Competitions currently running include U10s, U13s, U15s (all mixed gender), Open Mixed and Open Mens.

If you would love to get involved, there are still some team vacancies in all competitions-stay in touch with Douglas Heat via their Facebook page, details below.

Please note – all players are required to be financial members of the Club to qualify for selection in tournaments.
