Some locals say the silly season in the Douglas Shire kicks off with Melbourne Cup celebrations…and with the range of activities and events around the region continuing, they’re probably not wrong! Whether you choose to chill or to play social butterfly, there’s something for everybody happening again this weekend…

What is the weather doing?

A high [1031 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge over northern waters. Weather is expected to be mostly sunny all weekend, with wind conditions improving over the next couple of days. Winds today are east to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore north of Cairns at times. Tomorrow expect east to southeasterly winds blowing 10 to 15 knots while on Sunday, winds are expected to be easterly 10 to 15 knots.
