Weekend Event Guide / 18-20 March 2022

The Archie 100 exhibition kicks off at Cairns Regional Gallery this weekend, celebrating a century of the Archibald Prize. Be amongst the first guests to visit Archie 100.  Free timed-entry tickets available to book now for the opening weekend.

2021 marks the one-hundred-year anniversary of Australia’s oldest and most-loved portrait award, The Archibald Prize. Often controversial, The Archibald Prize continues to enthral and amuse, inspire and bemuse audiences from around Australia and overseas. It is unequivocally the most coveted art award for contemporary Australian portrait artists.

Archie 100: A Century of The Archibald Prize brings together more than one hundred artworks selected from every decade of The Archibald Prize exhibition and unearths many of the fascinating stories behind them.

There is also a wonderfully diverse range of school holiday art workshops available to book now, including digital self portraits, digital easter eggs, stop motion puppets, woven basket eco workshop, upcycled birds, perfectly imperfect portraiture, mini zines and pet portraits.

In case you are wondering what the weather is up to 😉

A high [1021 hPa] over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast, and will persist for several days. A new high will move into the Tasman Sea over the weekend and reinforce the ridge along the coast. A trough in the northwest Coral Sea extends through the North Tropical Coast and may shift slowly north during the next few days.
