Weather conditions aren’t exactly ideal but console yourself with loads of fabulous live music playing in local venues stretching from Cape Trib, out to Mount Molloy and down to Ellis Beach. Tuck in to some fresh local prawns direct from Santiego, who will be selling to the public from the public jetty on Saturday from 7.00 am and Sunday from 8.00am. Grab a loaf of crusty bread at the Mossman markets for a gourmet prawn sanga or chargrill direct on the fire pit. There are plenty of great movies now screening, including the fabulous Elvis. Our local markets are always a great way to support our local growers, producers and artisans, and are held in Mossman, Port Douglas and Palm Cove this weekend.

What exactly is the weather doing?

A high [1023 hPa] in the northern Tasman Sea and a high [1035 hPa] in the Great Australian Bight extend a ridge over the northern waters. The second high will move slowly east over the next few days, maintaining the ridge. A trough may develop in the Coral Sea over the weekend, remaining slow moving offshore into the start of next week. Winds south to southeasterly up to 30 knots over the weekend.

The Reef Eye Ferris Wheel is now open at the Cairns Esplanade, from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, beside the Lagoon. Credit / @_sarahlatham
