Friday night features “Junior Filmmakers, Music Video & Young Filmmakers Award”, showcasing the future of filmmaking at play. Gates open 5pm. Tickets and further information here.

TASTE OF THE TROPICS GRAND HIGH TEA / Sheraton Mirage 2-4pm. The longstanding grand tradition of high tea comes alive in Far North Queensland with an afternoon of tΓͺte-Γ -tΓͺte amidst a delectable selection of sandwiches and sweet treats served with cold bubbles and hot tea.

PORT SHORTS / Tonight’s theme is “the best short films on Earth”, featuring Drone Awards, Local Filmmakers Awards and Open Filmmakers Awards. The edge of the Coral Sea is the place to be and we’ll be bringing you the very best short films from around the globe – and our own backyard!
Far North Qld filmmakers have their time in the spotlight, and our shiny Drone category will showcase the best in aerial cinematography. So come on down from 5pm and enjoy a spectacular sunset over Mossman Gorge before the main show starts. Tickets and further information.

DISCOVER SAILING DAY / Cairns Yacht Club 10am-3pm. The aim of National Discover Sailing program is to encourage people to find out how much fun, safe, accessible and affordable sailing can be.Β The Cairns Yacht Club Commodore John Pool encouraged people to pay the club a visit on 15th of OctoberΒ Β between 10am and 3pm.

β€œThis is a fantastic opportunity for us to welcome the community to our club and our sport” he said.β€œWe encourage anyone who has ever wanted to try sailing to come and have a look and enjoy a sail with an experienced club member or instructor.Β β€œWe provide all the instructors, boats and safety equipment, so all you have to do is come along prepared for a good time with a spare set of clothes, a hat and some sunscreen.” Further information.

BIG TALK ONE FIRE / UMI Arts Big Talk One Fire Indigenous Cultural Festival is UMI Arts’ annual signature event, held at Fogarty Park, on the sunny Cairns Esplanade. Big Talk One Fire is a free, family-friendly event that brings together a concert with headlining and supporting local Indigenous bands, traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance, and pop-up Indigenous market stalls. This event aims to showcase and promote the best of Far North Queensland cultures to a large and varied audience. Further information.
