Application for Daintree Men’s Shed Goes Ahead

DOUGLAS Shire Council has provided “landowner’s consent” to the Daintree Coast Community Shed Inc to lodge a development application for a clubhouse on public land in Diwan.

The community organisation has engaged a planning consultant who has prepared and lodged a development application for a men’s shed over land at 69 Tea Tree Road.

The land, which is freehold land owned by Council, currently has emergency services facilities, a helipad, health clinic, public toilets, performance stage, playground, sporting club facilities and grounds, and Council Works depot.

The Council decision to provide consent now allows the planning team to assess the application.

Cooya Beach boat ramp is getting new pavement, reflectors and a wash down area.

The Port Douglas Public Wharf is located between the Sugar Wharf and the public boat ramp.

Douglas Shire Council has contracted Hunter Carpentry to replace the deteriorating timber walers on the wharf.  The walers will be replaced with pre-oiled White Mahogany.

The public pontoon will be closed to all vessels and pedestrians from 7am Monday 5 December through to 5pm Friday 9 December 2022.

Don’t Forget to be Water Wise

COUNCIL is encouraging the community to be water wise in the home and backyard to help steady creek levels until rainfall arrives.

While Level 1 water restrictions allow the use of sprinklers and irrigation systems, they must only be used on alternate days, between 6pm and 8am for a maximum of four hours.

EVEN-numbered houses or no prescribed street number: Wed, Fri, Sun
ODD-numbered houses: Tue, Thu, Sat
Irrigation systems are not permitted on Mondays.

More information on Council’s Water Restrictions is available here.
