The Courthouse Gallery launches Colourful Country

Featuring emerging artists from Pormpuraaw Art & Culture Centre, the exhibition launches tomorrow with an opening at 6pm.

Pormpuraaw Art & Culture Centre is well known for their innovative ghost net sculptures and print making. However, their paintings deserve equal recognition and praise.

A select group of Pormpuraaw artists including Meredith Arkwookerum, Katherine Ngallametta, Mylene Holroyd and Jillian Holroyd have gained recent acclaim for their work, winning awards and generating interest for their artmaking and joyful approach to sharing traditional stories.

Delighting in free play with colour and form, these painters have created their own visual language to express their unique identity and place in the world.

“Our talented women tell their stories with vibrant colours. Their paintings make you feel good, like going to a birthday party and seeing colourful decorations.” – Paul Jakubowski, Art Centre Manager.

Complementing the paintings is an immersive installation of ghost net sculptures by additional Pormpuraaw Art & Culture Centre artists.

Karen’s Diner Is On TOUR taking the world by storm!

Popping up in Cairns in May, Karen’s Diner is an absurd, unique environment brimming with cheeky laughs, banter and top-notch American diner-style grub!

We pride ourselves on our terrible service, rated 1* by Karen herself! This is dining with a twist – the food is great, the service is ungrateful but your experience will be unforgettable.

If you’ve got a mate who’s a bit up their own ass, you now know where to find us! Maybe it’s even to break the first date ice, or give your partner a roasting for not messaging back quickly enough. Whatever it is, we have you covered so sit back and watch the carnage unfold.

Here are some questions we get asked all the bloody time, so get reading and save yourself the email because we don’t want to hear from you.

What’s on the menu?

KARMA. Get served what you deserve at Karen’s Diner. If it’s good enough for Eddie Hall it’s good enough for you. The menu will be based on the venue you are attending.

Do I need to book?

Tickets MUST be booked online. One ticket per person, don’t be a tight ass.

Are kids allowed?

We hate to see the selfish little stink-asses coming through the doors, but yes, they’re allowed. However, no under 16’s after 6PM.

From 19-May-2023 To 20-May-2023

Venue: Elixir Music Bar, Level 1, 92 Abbott St, Cairns

Ticket Price From:A$0 – A$47.00
