2023 marks the 108th Anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli, Turkey. A Dawn service will take place in Mossman at the Cenotaph on Front Street, followed by a commemorative march in Port Douglas.
ANZAC Day will be commemorated across the Shire on Tuesday 25 April 2023.
Three locations throughout the Douglas Shire will host a Dawn service or Commemorative March to honour and remember the sacrifices made.
2023 marks the 108th Anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli, Turkey.
A Dawn Service will take place in Mossman at the Cenotaph on Front street, followed by a commemorative march in Port Douglas.
In Cow Bay, people can participate in a Dawn March starting from My Pathways car park.
The Daintree Ferry will be open at 4am on Anzac Day to accommodate ferry users wishing to attend dawn services.
Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr, who will address the Mossman and Port Douglas services, encourages all Douglas Shire residents to attend a service if they are able to.
“Our local community always comes together to honour those who served our beautiful country over the years,” he said.

Mossman Dawn Service
Meet at Mossman Cenotaph on Front St at 5:15am, with official proceedings from 5:25am
- ROAD CLOSURE: Corner of Wharf Street and Macrossan Street, and Macrossan Street from Grant Street to Wharf Street will be closed to traffic from 6am till 12pm with detours in place.
Port Douglas Commemorative March
Meet at Port Douglas Village in Macrossan Street from 10am and begin the march towards the cenotaph at 10:15am. Official proceedings begin at the Port Douglas Cenotaph at 10:30am
Cow Bay Dawn March
Meet at My Pathways car park (1475 Cape Tribulation) at 5:15am and march to the Cow Bay Cenotaph.
School groups, community groups and sporting clubs are welcome to attend but Council requests that you be mindful of space at the cenotaph and the space required for each group.
After the formal arrangements, in Port Douglas the Central Hotel hosts a traditional Two-Up session while up in Cow Bay, the Cow Bay Cricket Club Cricket Match (starts around 1pm) between Cape Trib and the Ferals will be held, along with live music from 2pm.
Tinderbox are performing up at PKs Jungle Village in Cape Trib playing songs to celebrate to true blue Aussie heroes that gave it all to preserve our freedoms.
