A Bright Future for Local Douglas Shire News

douglas shire news

You may have noticed that the team at douglasnews.network have been relatively quiet since May 2021. This is as a result of our lawyers’ advice when we were being sued for defamation.

We are pleased to announce that a Notice of Discontinuance has been filed in the District Court of Queensland, where the plaintiff discontinued the whole of the claim against douglasnews.network. The matter is settled.

Nonetheless, douglasnews.network has continued to grow with support and subscribers with a current increase in subscription up 48% on 2022 figures. Our focus includes a weekly What’s On Guide in the Douglas Shire, keeping you informed about Douglas Shire Council meetings, works, and other Notices, community news and events, opinion pieces and breaking local news shared on our web platform, in social media and via email.

We are excited to re-launch douglasnews.network as a community-focussed news platform for the Douglas Shire. Since the loss of our newspaper, The Port Douglas and Mossman Gazette and our community radio station, Radio Port Douglas, there has been a critical need to fill this gap with a media site that covers the community, business, Council, entertainment, dining, and issues that are important to residents and visitors of the Douglas Shire.

Moving forward,we will provide more in-depth articles and commentary on Douglas Shire’s issues. This is very important now, as there will be Council elections in March 2024, and we believe strongly in the role of independent media to keep people informed.
