Cafe del Mar to present unforgettable Sunset Session at Sheraton for Carnivale

Picture thisโ€ฆ.locals, visitors and guests gathering for a sunset to remember as they swim in Australiaโ€™s most iconic pool during a special Carnivale edition of Sheraton Sunset Sessions.

World famous for celebrating spectacular sunsets in Ibiza since the 80โ€™s, Cafรฉ Del Mar remains one of the much-loved Spanish islandโ€™s most treasured venues to this day. The true pioneers of bringing music, sensational sunsets and fun together with Mediterranean food and cool drinks, this special Cafรฉ Del Mar edition of the regular Sunset Sessions at Sheraton is sure to be a hot ticket during Port Douglas Carnivale 2023.

As the sun gets ready to set on Sunday 21 May, Australiaโ€™s most iconic beachfront resort will come to life as colourful cocktails, Mediterranean bites and Cafรฉ Del Mar tunes by DJ โ€˜Jus Joeโ€™ will flow onto the shore of the resortโ€™s Main Beach.

Attendees can choose their level of indulgence with event packages – the most exclusive being the โ€˜Pearl Packageโ€™ where ticket holders can play in a private poolside cabana by day and settle into the sounds of Cafรฉ Del Mar by night. Think premium champagne, tapas, paella, Yarra Valley caviar, freshly shucked oysters, olives and more! The โ€˜Shell Packageโ€™ is the localโ€™s pick as it gives the flexibility to choose food and drink favourites with a $50 credit included in every ticket.

Sheraton Grand Mirage Resortโ€™s General Manager Steve Molnar, said โ€œGlobally, our brand celebrates human connections with experiences that foster moments of togetherness for travellers and the local community, on this occasion in a spectacular setting usually exclusively available to resort guests.โ€

“Cafรฉ Del Mar in Ibiza started the unique sunset session tradition which they now continue all over the world and we are delighted they join us during Carnivale to bring the experience to Tropical North Queensland.โ€

Sheraton Grand Mirage Resortโ€™s Marketing Director, Deb McDiarmid

Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas also presents two additional events in the Carnivale programme on Saturday the 20th of May. Both pay homage to the sugar industry, particularly the Cane Cutters and their descendants who still farm the local land today.

In the Daintree Bar, Head Distiller and Director of Mt Uncle Distillery, Mark Watkins, will lead a Sugar Cane Rum Masterclass – his unpretentious commentary going down smoothly with samples of three award winning products from his FNQ Rum Co. label. What makes this class extra special is hearing the story behind the rum-making process – from planting to harvest, fermentation to copper still and, finally, placement in oak barrels for ageing.

Saturday evening celebrates the start of the Harvest Season with a symbolic cane burning, followed by an Italian family style feasting menu under the stars on Sheratonโ€™s Four Mile Lawn. Inspired by stories of shared suppers and the smells of tomato sugo drifting from the cane cutter barracks, this gastronomic experience will be complimented by authentic stories told by descendants of the regionโ€™s sugar pioneers, a selection of Italian wines and live music.
