Douglas Shire will be pumping with the 125 year celebrations of Mossman State School this weekend-celebrities kick off on Friday night. There will no doubt be lots of great laughs and shared memories, and we wish you a very successful weekend.
There will be an exodus north tomorrow as many locals head up for the Laura Races and Rodeo this weekend or inland to Mareeba for the Northern Nats. The inaugural Β Cairns Fashion WeekΒ launched last night and continues for the next five days, featuring a range of exhibitions, workshops, displays and catwalks. Across Crystalbrook properties and the Tanks, enjoy a creative bubble of design in swimwear, resort and street wear as well as high-end couture.
Friday 23 June
Mossman State School 125 year celebrations Birthday Banquet | Mossman Shire Hall from 6pm
This is a ticketed event for an intimate evening with friends and family, reminiscing and celebrating the School’s 125th Birthday.
Starlight Movies | Mossman Showgrounds
Australiaβs premier outdoor cinema are screening βA Dogβs Way Homeβ for a memorable family evening. Music & refreshments from 6.00pm. Feature movie after sunset at 7.00 pm.
Mount Molloy National Hotel
Featuring live and loud local music tonight. Jag the Joker, meat trays and raffles, Happy Hour, local transfer bus home (book early!) or enjoy country pub style hospitality with a room at the inn upstairs.
DAB “Somethin’ Fishy” Feature Wall
In between DAB’s exhibitions we will be featuring the artwork of an individual artist, artists or an art group on the back Feature Wall in DAB’s gallery.
“Somethin’ Fishy” is now on display on the Feature Wall until Sunday 23 July. This collection of artwork is a collaboration between Colin Price, Inger Rowe and Mandy Ryan. It’s a mix of quirky, unique and cleverly created fish-related artworks in a variety of mediums – pottery, mosaics, paintings (both watercolour & acrylics), printmaking with linocuts, mixed media and felting.
Pop into the gallery to have a look. 11 Mill Street, Mossman, opposite the library.

Mossman Quilt & CraftΒ ExpoΒ
The annual Expo presents a beautiful array of sewing, quilting and crafting articles on display.Get inspired for the Mossman Show.

Mossman State School Community Fete & Unveiling of 100 year Time CapsuleΒ | School Oval from 2pm-10pm
Food vans, activities, amusements, entertainment, cent sale, raffles, live music by the Walker Brothers, and plenty more!
A time capsule was buried at the Schoolβs Centenary 25 years ago in 1998. Current students have been working on pieces to add to the 125th capsule and members of the community are also invited to contribute something small.
The time capsule will be retrieved at the Fete at 3pm, and its contents will be displayed before being re-buried at a later date, full of new memories and items for the Schoolβs 150th celebrations in 2048.
Jinkalmu Book Launch | Mossman State School at 4pm
Everybody is welcomed to join the launch of βJinkalmuβ, a Kuku Yalanji bilingual book created by students from the School, based on stories from the Mossman area.

Northern Nats | Springmount Raceway, Mareeba
Revheads from across the far north will be heading to Springmount Raceway for three days of drags, burnouts, and drifting at the annual Northern Nats.
Attracting hundreds of car enthusiasts from all walks of life for the seventh time, the Northern Nats is a βcelebration of horsepowerβ with over $30,000 worth of prizes up for grabs across all categories.
