Everything you need to know about the Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival this weekend

port douglas gran fondo

This weekend, Port Douglas Gran Fondo comes to town, a captivating three-day cycling festival that beckons adventure seekers to explore our breathtaking region.

Scheduled this Sunday, September 10, the Port Douglas Gran Fondo offers four exhilarating rides, each designed to cater to riders of varying levels.

The 136km and 100km Gran Fondo, the 60km Semi Fondo, and the 48km Medio Fondo present a unique opportunity to challenge riders’ limits against the clock or savour the breathtaking tropical journey at their own pace. Gran Fondo isn’t a race; it’s a chance to bask in the splendour of our surroundings.

Picturesque courses wind along the Great Barrier Reef Drive, spanning the distance between Port Douglas and Palm Cove. As riders pedal, they will be treated to awe-inspiring vistas framed by swaying palm trees and the azure waters of the Coral Sea. For safety reasons, and to enhance the rider experience, a number of roads will be temporarily closed to traffic, allowing participants to revel in the ride.

Port Douglas Gran Fondo is more than just a cycling event; it’s a weekend-long celebration of the North Queensland lifestyle. As part of the Festival, events include Hartley’s to Port MTB Race,Β Lexus of Cairns Criterium,Β Hemingway’s Brewery Sprint,Β Choo Choos FREE Family Ride, Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina Festival Expo, local live music and an after party.

This event will deliver close to $5M into the local economy and bring new tourists to the region. But event organisers understand that road closures impact the local community, Cairns Airport transfers, tourism operators, travelling tourists, businesses and all road users. Their aim is to minimise this impact as much as possible and ensure we open roads on schedule.
